Megan Montee, PhD
Director, Performance-based Language Assessment
As the Director of Performance-based Language Assessment, Meg Montee leads test development, assessment research, and test validation projects. She is particularly interested in technology-based speaking assessment. Dr. Montee holds a dual position at CAL and Georgetown University where she works as an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Director of the Assessment and Evaluation Language Resource Center.
In addition to test development and assessment research projects, Dr. Montee also works extensively with educators. She leads online and face-to-face courses about language assessment and test design, and works with schools to develop assessment tools and training materials for local contexts.
Dr. Montee received a Ph.D. in applied linguistics from Georgia State University a Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language from Georgetown University.

The project, "Annopa Tikbishtiya," or "Carry the Language Forward," is ensuring that the language flourishes and grows from generation to generation. CAL Works to Strengthen English Learner Communities & Programming in Massachusetts Public Schools
Researchers at the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) have developed online courses for parents and educators to aid in creating and sustaining effective ELPACs, or English Learner Parent Advisory Councils, impacting over 20% of public school districts in Massachusetts.

BEST Literacy 2.0 Submitted for Review
CAL submitted BEST Literacy 2.0, its adult English test of Reading and Writing, for approval by the Department of Education Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE).

CAL's Adult English Language Assessment Approval Extended Through 2023
On August 7, the Department of Education announces the approval of BEST Plus 2.0 and BEST Literacy through February, 2023.
