Peace Corps TEFL Certificate Validation

The Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) is acting as an external consultant to the Peace Corps to review and validate the Peace Corps Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certificate program. As the validator of this program, CAL conducts the following evaluation activities: two comprehensive reviews of Peace Corps TEFL Certificate standards, annual review of trainer credential, annual review of volunteer assessments, and contractor recertification approval. CAL also advises the Peace Corps on current pedagogies and research related to TEFL and foreign language education. Finally, CAL assists the Peace Corps, as appropriate, to disseminate information about the certificate to academic institutions, language schools, and other appropriate institutions.

This project is led by CAL staff members Dr. Keira Ballantyne and DeAnna Coon. These experienced professionals have more than twenty years combined experience in TESOL teaching, pre- and in-service teacher professional development, teacher training, program evaluation, and assessment fields.
