In this interactive webinar, participants will learn to apply second language acquisition theory to classroom instruction. Examples of instructional strategies for teaching English learners (ELs) will be presented, with a focus on the special content areas of PE, Health, Music, and Art. Facilitators will also present ways to effectively share these strategies with other educators. 

About the Presenters

Karen Gregory, Ph.D., M.A.T., is an educational consultant committed to advocacy for ELs and their teachers. Calling upon her background as an educational researcher and a teacher of Spanish and ESL, she conducts professional development seminars and workshops with her colleague Gretchen Oliver. Karen has taught TESOL methodology at the University at Albany, SUNY, as well as language and pedagogy courses at Union Graduate College, and is a former high school teacher.

Gretchen Oliver, A.B.D., M.A., is the coordinator of a U.S. Department of Education grant-funded research and professional development project through the National Professional Development Program.  In addition, she has taught TESOL methods classes at the University at Albany, SUNY and Hunter College, CUNY. As a former K-12 teacher of French in New York State schools and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teacher in France, she draws heavily upon her experiences as a practitioner in the professional development workshops and seminars that she conducts with her consultant colleague Karen Gregory.
