RTI/MTSS for Secondary ELs: Supporting Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Adolescents When They Struggle

When students struggle educationally, it is the school’s/teachers’ responsibility to provide appropriate interventions through a multi-tiered approach that supports their academic progress and development. Successful implementation of RTI/MTSS is key to ensuring that ELs receive appropriate intervention to maximize their academic achievement and language acquisition.

This workshop will focus on the discussion of Implementing a multi-tiered approach with adolescent ELs across their language development and content area classes; the supports linguistically/culturally diverse students receive in Tiers 1, 2 and 3 while providing interventions for ELs prior to the referral process; reaching out to secondary teachers who teach Tier 2 & 3 ELs in their Tier 1 classrooms; finally, sharing instructional practices to ensure successful implementation ELs to maximize their academic achievement and language acquisition.
