Para-Educators as Instructional Partners with English Learners and Emergent Bilinguals

The partnership between paraprofessional/para-educator and teachers is a vital piece of collaboration in the linguistically diverse classroom. The para-educator’s role is one of shared responsibility with their partner teachers to plan/implement instructional practices that will allow students to acquire content and language.

In this workshop, participants will discuss topics such as: creating collaborative relationships; lesson planning with para-educators in mind; activities/practices that will promote comprehensible input, oral language development & output, and academic language learning. The workshop will emphasize how the para-educator can be utilized as an instructional partner in supporting the needs of EL/emergent bilingual students within the classroom.
