This poster presents research on best practices and educator needs for working with heritage language learners (HLLs) in K-12 language classrooms, which resulted in a two-page Quick Reference Guide to support teachers’ implementation of the 2021 Massachusetts World Languages Framework. Information was gathered from a literature review and two focus groups with five educators who have worked with HLLs in a variety of contexts, including traditional world language programs. Educators working in these programs may have limited training and experience with HLLs, and need more instructional guidance to ensure inclusion, equity, and access for HLLs in mixed classrooms with second language learners.
