Lynn Thompson (M.A., International Relations, American University; M.S., Applied Linguistics, and postgraduate courses in sociolinguistics, Georgetown University) has been involved in K–12 and postsecondary language assessment for over 20 years.
As a senior member of the World Languages and International Programs area, she directed the development of the Student Oral Proficiency Assessment (SOPA) and the Early Language Listening and Oral Proficiency Assessment (ELLOPA) online training and currently oversees CAL’s online SOPA and ELLOPA courses. She also led development of the web-based Oral Proficiency Assessment Training Course for Chinese Teachers (WOPA). Ms. Thompson also advises and evaluates K-8 world language programs.
Ms. Thompson has conducted and overseen numerous professional development workshops and has presented nationally and internationally on foreign language assessment and CAL-developed assessments. She has served as program director for the 2010-2015 STARTALK programs.
