What does it mean to be a welcoming school? How can teachers, administrators, parents, students, and receiving communities all play an effective role in meaningful school welcome that supports student success?
This three-hour institute will include
- Documentary Film Screening: I Learn America features five newly-arrived immigrant teens as they adapt to their new school and community environment.
- Expert Panel Presentation: Through the prism of schools as anchor institutions for newcomers, a diverse panel of experts will share information about policy, research, and practice to inform further discussion.
- Interactive Roundtable Discussions: Attendees and presenters will discuss current practices and brainstorm action steps to support the creation and enhancement of welcoming school communities.
