Investigating the Context for Use of Innovative Item Types

In this poster, we present an analysis of innovative item types, specifically hot spot and drag and drop items, in the listening and reading domains of one large-scale assessment of English language proficiency where the use of innovative items is not prescribed at the specification level. The purpose of the study is to assess the practical implications of the use of innovative item types, both for the test development process and the test take experience.
